Hendy's report from the front

This post compliments of William Haywood Henderson, who braved distances and various distractions to attend Gary Schanbacher's reading in Highlands Ranch. (Don't worry. Hendy made it back safely, folks.)

Gary Schanbacher battled both the Red Sox and the Rox last night, and it was a blow out. More than fifty cheering fans attended Gary’s reading at the Tattered Cover Highlands Ranch, and we all happily forgot the World Series as Gary read from and discussed his debut collection of stories, Migration Patterns (Fulcrum). Always witty and self-effacing, Gary had us laughing as he ran the math on when he thought his novel-in-progress might be finished; let’s see, if it takes him a year to eighteen months per short story, he thought he should be ready to shop a novel manuscript around in about ten years! We should all be so fast. Lighthouse board member Diane Marty and I ran off into the night, back to our writing desks, hoping (against hope) to keep pace. Congratulations, Gary! Your collection if beautiful.
