Who says we bring no news of the world? For those seeking direction in their writing lives, a couple of interesting press releases came through to LH today:
- Amazon and the Penguin Group announced the Breakthrough Novel Award. For those who are seeking publication for a first novel, submit your manuscript by November 5, 2007, and wait for Amazon editors and "top reviewers" to sift through it all... kind of a literary Project Greenlight, I suppose. If you need an external deadline to get your butt moving, this might be worth a try.
- The mayor's office, in cahoots with Denver' s poet laureate Chris Ransick, is sponsoring a Kurt Vonnegut "depreciation" contest. Send your entries to [email protected] by Nov. 1. Okay, get writing!
