4-Week: Novel Fitness—How to Tone Up Your Plot

$205.00 Members
$230.00 Non-members

If you struggle with plot, you're not alone. Many writers get inspired to begin a book, only to get lost in the middle or find themselves wrestling with an ending that feels rushed or unsatisfying. Often, people who can write beautifully still feel mystified and daunted by the prospect of plotting a novel. Learning about common plotting pitfalls and how to avoid them can help.

This course will cover: premise, message and themes, conflict, resolution, character goals and motivation, character stakes, raising the stakes, and character arc. We’ll also study beginnings, middles, and endings, including the inciting incident and important turning points such as the midpoint, along with how to bring about the climax and denouement. In addition, we’ll consider the Seven Plots and decide which works best for your novel.

Who will benefit from this course? If you’re a “pantser” with a completed draft (someone who doesn’t outline in advance) or an “outliner,” this course will give you tools to determine which parts of your plot are strong, which parts could use a fitness program, and which exercises will support you the most while getting your book in shape.
