Description: This eight-week, online forum is suitable for writers of the short story or longer works of fiction. Weekly exercises focus on the dramatic elements of fiction, such as character development, dynamic scenes, dialogue, pacing, and finding the heart of the story. A perfect immersion for writers who wish to begin or further their work on short or long fiction projects. Participants will focus equally on reading published works and writing/revising original short stories and chapters, as well as discussing aspects of publishing. Weekly writing exercises, readings, and workshops of peer stories will be combined to provide the most direct, effective training in fiction.
Objectives: By the end of this course, members will have a solid understanding of elements of contemporary fiction, and will have made great strides in drafting their own stories and novels.
