What is the Teen Council?

The Lighthouse Teen Council meets Wednesday evenings from 4 to 6pm to workshop works-in-progress, experiment with writing in different literary genres, and provide direction to the greater Lighthouse Young Writers program.  Members of the Teen Council will gain knowledge about publishing and will be encouraged to participate in Lighthouse’s literary events throughout the year.

There will be a $100 deposit required at the beginning of the semester to ensure attendance at Teen Council meetings, but the amount will be returned in full to students who have no more than two excused absences over the course of one semester. Students may be eligible for community service hours based on their attendance and the requirements of their high school.

Participating in the Teen Council is a great way for young writers to hone their craft, demonstrate leadership in the literary community, and learn about the process of becoming published.

How can I become a Teen Council member?

Council members must:
•    Be in high school
•    Have a demonstrated interest in creative writing
•    Have previous experience in a writer’s workshop
•    Be able to commit to weekly meetings for two school semesters
