In Body Work, Melissa Febos writes, “Our bodies are the houses we live in, the temples of our spirits, our most intimate and immediate vehicles for experiencing the world. They are the truest reflection of ourselves.” With Febos’s statement as a guiding principle, this class will teach different ways to write the human body in all its forms and changes. From a perspective of empathy, honesty, and risk, we’ll read contemporary writers who intentionally depict the body in various styles. We’ll also write about bodies in our own work through prompts that give us new permissions in a safe space. Ultimately, we want to get out of our own heads and into our bodies through the divine process that Febos champions. This class is for all levels of writers of all genres.
