Visiting Author Series: Obsessional Poetics--No One Writes Just One Poem

In this workshop, we will be focusing on clusters or series of poems. We might begin by discussing what difference it might make to name something either a series of poems or a cluster of poems. We will also examine the ways modern and contemporary poets turn and return to a place, person, image, form, or event as a way of exploring and unearthing a subject.  What can these forms of return teach us about our own poems? How can we mine our own repetitions or obsessions for new work?  How might we delve more deeply into our own habits of writing and feeling?  Please bring a few poems to workshop that you might use as a resource for growing a series or cluster.
You can find the reading for the class, a selection from Love, an Index, by Rebecca Lindenberg, Sleeping with the Dictionary, by Harryette Mullen, and The Selected Poems of Langston Hughes here.

Lynn's craft seminar will be followed by a free reception, reading, and Q&A from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
