4-Week: Assembling a Collection of Poetry

Poets, now that you have a collection of individual poems, how do you turn them into a coherent chapbook or poetry manuscript to send out for publication? In this class we will look at examples of published manuscripts in addition to closely reading students’ own work to consider the various strategies (serial, spatial, tonal, etc.) for curating a poetry collection. We will also discuss cover letters, poetry contests, and small-press publishing options.
