Writing in Color is a program focused on building community for BIPOC writers. The program includes monthly meet-ups that aim to connect writers of color with peers to share ideas, inspirations, new work, successes, challenges, and resources to foster a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive writing community in Colorado and beyond.

August (Denver): Join us for our regularly scheduled (in person) monthly meetup during the Writing in Color Retreat where Confidence Omenai will be facilitating a craft lecture based on her mixed media art installation Did You Die Though? Confidence describes Did You Die Though? as “an exhortation to raise the dead. An invitation to grave robbery. An indaba embracing the ceremony of radical self-compassion and resurrection.”

September (Zoom): For this month we'll be coming together for a session focused on writing prompts lead by Writing in Color's Program Coordinator, Twanna LaTrice Hill.

October (Zoom): This month we'll be joined by authors Joseph Earl Thomas Jr. and Steven Dunn. Joseph and Steven will be talking about Joseph's recently released memoir, Sink.

November (Zoom): This month we'll be celebrating Native American Heritage Month. Winter Counts author and Lighthouse faculty member, David Heska Wanbli Weiden will join us for this meetup.

December (Denver): It's our 2nd annual Writing in Color end of year celebration! Join us in person at Lighthouse where we'll have food, drinks, games, and an open mic to round out this year's programming.

In 2023, Writing in Color will meet quarterly for in-person mixers. Meetups will continue to be on Zoom for the in-between months.
