Body of Words

Body of Words is a community writing program that supports and celebrates the creativity, resilience, and perspectives of writers and artists living with chronic illness and disability.

Our monthly gatherings bring together writers living with chronic illness and disability to create art and connect with one another. Each session offers time to write from prompts, exchange encouragement, and talk honestly about sustaining creativity alongside the realities of illness and disability. We also spotlight the voices of disabled and chronically ill authors and performers, reading and reflecting on their work as part of our conversations.

Through this program we aim to:

  • Build a warm, welcoming community of chronically ill and disabled writers.

  • Encourage a sustainable writing practice through generative sessions while offering solidarity through challenges both on and off the page.

  • Celebrate and learn from other writers living with chronic illness and disability by reading and discussing their work and then writing in response to it.

By offering free monthly meetups and opportunities for connection, our mission is to amplify the voices of chronically ill and disabled writers while fostering a vibrant, welcoming, and empowering creative community. Writers of all genres and levels are welcome.

Monthly Meetups

Our monthly meetups take place virtually on the first Friday of each month, bringing together writers living with chronic illness and disability to create art and connect with one another.
