This advanced-level class will delve into the widely spanning umbrella genre of speculative fiction (and all its unique, often overlapping permutations). Including (but not limited to): sci-fi, fantasy, magical realism, surrealism, fabulism, supernatural, and the new weird. In addition to students submitting and discussing two workshop pieces per session, we'll also employ a range of interesting writing prompts as well as external supplemental readings to help us better grasp what is it that makes a piece of writing "speculative" and why is it worth pushing your fiction toward this mysterious realm of über-real possibility?
Prerequisite: At least one Lighthouse intermediate-level fiction workshop or permission of the instructor. To obtain permission via application, please email a writing sample (3 to 5 pages) and a brief description of your workshop history to [email protected].
NOTE: Applications for this class are open to members of the Book Project, Portfolio Year, and Post-Grad Year only through Monday, October 26. Starting on Tuesday, October 27 we'll begin to process applications from the general public.
