Telling Time

Within every narrative exists a clock. In this hands-on class, writers will learn how to identify common narrative mistakes in “telling time" and practice techniques for "showing" the passage of time instead. We'll briefly explore setting as time and its relation to plot. Then, we'll consider “timing” and “pacing” with a particular emphasis on when to slow down or speed up. Students will be given a short craft essay to read before class.
