Rebel Fiction: Online Summer Camp for ages 14-18

This generative camp focuses on play and exploration. Writers will need to be open to experimentation, risk, and genre-bending. The stories we’ll read and write in this camp don’t fit into a box—instead they bust the rules. We’ll explore fiction that leans surreal, absurd, fabulist, high-concept, speculative, uncanny, and unclassifiable. As part of this “pro-weird” camp, your instructor will guide you through inventive, unusual writing prompts and introduce you to writers like Aimee Bender, Megan Milks, Carmen Maria Machado, Kelly Link, Kim Fu. and others. We’ll focus on how to welcome the wild into our work as well as explore all that our stories can be, not on rules that mandate “do not.” Writers will leave camp with strange, surprising new fiction; an expanded sense of creativity; and a deeper understanding of what storytelling can do.
