There at the center of all our lives is fire, be it the soul, the center of the earth, that which keeps the lights on or heats our houses. Yet we fear it, especially in the west, for we have kept it away for so long, from that which it once had a part in. For fires are not only destructive, but renewing, sacred and needed. We need to reintroduce ourselves to the fire, to immerse ourselves in it, to light something upon the page and watch its glorious burn.
In this craft seminar, we will face the fire together—generating work that taps into the dread, the fear, the rebirth and the beauty of the flames. Then we will share it with one another, building something like a bonfire of our own making, one which we can sit beside and glean all manner of warmth from.
This course is a part of West Fest, a celebration of writing in and about the American West, the weekend of November 7–8. To learn more and explore passes, which include discounted registrations to this class, click here.
