4-Week: Gleaning—A Notebook Practice

“What I’ve gleaned tells me where I’ve been,” filmmaker Agnes Varda tells us. In our current socio-political landscape, we’re all gleaners; we pick the fallen fruit, doing creative work despite scarce and turbulent times. Together, we’ll work to cultivate individual notebook practices that celebrate not the final product but the process, seeking to establish self-worth via discovery. This class will study the work of artists across mediums to learn from their creative practices, particularly in the face of political and economic precarity. Participants can expect in-class writing, reading, and discussion.
