Barrett Swanson is the author of the critically acclaimed essay collection, Lost in Summerland, and serves as a contributing editor at Harper’s Magazine. He was the recipient of a Pushcart Prize, and his short fiction and essays have been distinguished as notable in Best American Short Stories, Best American Nonrequired Reading, Best American Sports Writing, and eight editions of the Best American Essays. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Harper’s, The New Yorker, GQ, The Paris Review, The New York Times Magazine, The Believer, American Short Fiction, The New Republic, The Atavist, The Guardian, and two editions of The Best American Travel Writing. He was the Halls Emerging Artist Fellow at the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing. His new book, Equipment for Living: Notes on Selfhood after the End of the World, is forthcoming from Atria/Simon & Schuster.
