Lex Rafael received a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in counseling from Pacifica Graduate Institute, where she studied depth psychology and Jungian theory.
Lex views writing as a way to engage with the imaginal dimension of life and refill one’s cup when a little magic is needed. At the 2026 National Association for Poetry Therapy conference, she led Recess for the Soul: Poetry as Play, an experiential workshop inviting adults to reconnect with wonder and spontaneity through reimagined childhood games and writing prompts.
She currently practices play therapy with children and adolescents in Denver, Colorado. Previously, she facilitated creative writing workshops with teens and adults in Nepal and poetry groups for youth impacted by trauma in Philadelphia. And roughly a million years ago, she competed in three national poetry slams.
Lex’s poetry and psychologically informed mythic essays can be found at The Winking Lantern.
