In this craft seminar, we will do close readings and discussions of works by quintessentially western authors such as Wallace Stegner, Hua Hsu and Noé Álvarez. By considering how they went about creating iconic depictions of places including rural Saskatchewan, California’s Bay Area, and Washington State’s Yakima Valley, we will examine how the authors brought these western landscapes to life in their prose. Writers can expect to leave this class with a deeper understanding of how places can shape their work’s sensibilities.
This course is a part of West Fest, a celebration of writing in and about the American West, the weekend of November 7–8. To learn more and explore passes, which include discounted registrations to this class, click here.
