West Fest: Write Your Own True West

$75.00 Members
$85.00 Non-members

All great writing is imbued with a writer's original signature, something no one else could have written, yet we can often fall back on stereotypes, tropes, or clichés. When writing about the West (the mountains or desert or plains, the present or past), it’s easy to conjure media images of what the land looks like, who the people are, and how groups of people related to each other. Yet for stories to truly soar, you need more originality, less rehash. This workshop will help you capture your original West (or whatever region you'd like to describe).

This craft seminar is open to all levels and genres. In it, we’ll work to create a true (or at least more accurate) sense of the West, drawing from first-person accounts, photographs, and your own experiences.

This course is a part of West Fest, a celebration of writing in and about the American West, the weekend of November 7–8. To learn more and explore passes, which include discounted registrations to this class, click here.
