The Book Project Fellowships

The Book Project Fellowships

The Book Project is a two-year mentor-based program that helps you finish your book! If you are seeking financial assistance to participate in this program, there are two types of fellowships available—The Book Project Fellowship and the Nighthawk Nature Writing Fellowship

Explore both fellowships to see which option is right for you before you apply!

What’s Included?

Book Project Fellows receive full or partial tuition for The Book Project.

Eligibility

  • The Book Project Fellowship: This option is available for writers of fiction, nonfiction, short stories, memoir, and hybrid texts.

  • Nighthawk Nature Writing Fellowship: This option is available for writers who are engaged in work that explores and honors the natural world and the animals and plants that inhabit it.

  • These fellowships are both based on financial need for writers who would otherwise not be able to participate in The Book Project.

Timeline

Applications for fellowships for The Book Project open on April 1 and close in late June. You will learn in early July if you are accepted to The Book Project and if you received a fellowship. After you are accepted, you have about a week to make a decision to participate in the program.

Apply

Applications open in April 2026.

Your fellowship application is part of your application for The Book Project. For your application materials, you’ll be asked to include an annual household income and a statement of financial need (500 words or less). Writers making it to the final round may be asked for income verification in the form of IRS filings. Each application is reviewed by The Book Project committee and rewarded based on merit and financial need.
