4-Week: Four Weeks with Fanny Howe

In this four-week hybrid genre class, we'll study the works of Fanny Howe, considering her poetry, memoir, and lyric essays. Focus on Howe’s mysticism and her idea of “bewilderment” as a generative approach to writing will be central to our conversations. Writers will be encouraged to work outside conventional genre norms to address ideas, experiences, and emotional states that are richly experimental and speculative. All levels are welcome, but be aware that the course materials may be fairly challenging. Instructor will provide a reader (a booklet of readings).
