Queer Creatives is a community writing program that aims to connect LGBTQIA+* writers and makers through collective story making and story sharing. LGBTQIA+ is an abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, and more. We also welcome folks who are questioning their gender or sexual orientation and those who are in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ communities.
Applying to residencies, writing programs, and competitive workshops can be difficult, and in such a personal endeavor as writing, it’s also vulnerable. In this meetup we’ll explore the ins and outs of applications—how to curate a writing sample, craft a knockout artist’s statement, and stand out in a crowd of other hopeful applicants. We’ll talk about what selection committees are looking for as well as strategies for guarding your heart and learning to love—okay, maybe just be okay with—rejection. Perfect for writers at all levels, regardless of application experience.
Stick around after this meetup for a quick happy hour and Lighthouse's music and storytelling Pride event hosted in collaboration with Colorado Baroque Chamber Orchestra (registration info TBA)!
