How do you create compelling emotional narratives in fiction? How can you not only describe your characters' emotional experiences, but create emotional responses in the reader? In this course, we'll discuss how to craft multiple layers of emotions in a scene, how character arcs can inform emotional reactions in the reader, and how use of specific vocabulary can add to the emotional experience of a scene. We'll also share and discuss our own short scenes, focusing on emotional resonance. Writers in this class can expect out-of-class writing or revising, first-blush feedback, and guided plus small group discussions.
Scheduling note: This class will skip Labor Day on Monday, September 7.
