4-Week: Craft Lessons from Surrealism

$255.00 Members
$280.00 Non-members

Reality has a message for us: try something different. One hundred years ago in Paris and in Mexico City, Lima and Barcelona, writers and artists like Guillaume Apolloinare and Leonroa Carrington met the horrors and bafflement of their day with a calculated derangement, inventing strage new forms and new vocabularies to describe an estranging world, an unrecognizable future. In this craft-focused class, we'll read short selections by masters of this surrealist mode, new and old—William Burroughs, Yoko Tawada, Sandra Newman, László Krasznahorkai, Sebastian Castillo. We'll write from generative prompts gleaned out of a century of subversive art. And we'll dream.
