Using T.C. Boyle’s short story “Greasy Lake” as a template, we'll learn how to write directions the reader can follow to both enter the settings we craft as well as the scenes which then unspool from such spaces. We'll study the ten mechanics of what makes a strong setting and practice incorporating all of them by choosing the right details and establishing the necessary tone in a fine blend of telling and showing. We'll then practice sequential summary as well as consequential as we invite the audience into the worlds we create.
