8-Week: Interior Weather and the Exterior World—Rendering Inner Life

$475.00 Members
$505.00 Non-members

Every character carries an interior weather system—stormfronts of desire, drifting fogs of memory, sudden shifts into the light. This course explores how to make those inner landscapes as vivid and textured as the outer world, weaving emotional truth seamlessly into scene. We’ll study how interiority can be conveyed through image, gesture, syntax, sensory detail, and the charged relationship between a character and their environment. Writers will experiment with subtext, mood, and point of view, learning how to let emotion shape the atmosphere of a scene without overexplaining or flattening it. Through close readings, generative exercises, and workshop, we’ll examine how interior states ripple outward, affecting setting, language, and narrative movement. This class welcomes writers of fiction and nonfiction, at all levels, who want to create work that feels alive beneath the surface—a story world where emotion moves like weather.
