The 2024 Writing in Color Fest was held on September 27-29 in person—with some virtual offerings—at Lighthouse Writers Workshop in Denver, Colorado.

Join us for Writing in Color Fest—an annual event designed to celebrate and amplify the voices of BIPOC+ writers. This year's theme is Say It Loud! Whether working on a novel, memoir, short fiction, poetry, or hybrid forms, our experienced faculty and guest instructors will work closely with you to support your writing process before we gather in the evening for free community events. Writing in Color Fest is open to writers of all genres and creatives who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC+). The goal of the Fest is to provide a space for writers of color to be in community and thrive as they grow their writing skills.

Intensives
The 2024 festival featured virtual and in person, three and two-day intensives focused on poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and hybrid forms. These intensives were taught by Wendy Chen, Natalie Hodges, and André Hoilette.

Craft Seminars
Craft seminars are one-time workshops that focus on developing and learning about a specific skill or particular element of a genre or writing technique. The festival's 2024 craft seminars were taught by Olivia Abtahi, Jasmine Griffin, Katerina Jeng, Vanessa Mártir, Suzi Q. Smith, Marisa Tirado, and Erika T. Wurth.

Lunchtime Panels
Lunchtime panels at the Writing in Color Fest feature local authors, Lighthouse instructors, and experts will guide you through essential steps in your writing journey. At the 2024 festival, participants explore opportunities such as residencies, fellowships, mentorship programs, and literary awards with Juan Morales, Anna Qu, and Erika T. Wurth and gained insights into navigating the publishing world from Kanika Agrawal, Aerik Francis, and literary agent Renée Jarvis.

Evening Events
The 2024 Writing in Color Fest included a variety of evening events focused on building community and finding creative inspiration. This year's lineup included a Writing in Color fellows reading and open mic, community dinner, trivia and board game night hosted by Black People Know Things, and more!

Passes
Passes are a great fit for writers who want to take a two or three-day intensive and afternoon craft seminars each day or multiple craft seminars. Signing up for a Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Platinum pass will allow you to get the full experience of the festival at a discounted rate. While tuition assistance is not available for passes, we do encourage you to look at our payment plan options which you can find on our Financial Assistance page.
