Hii! I’m Felix, a Lighthouse Intern & High School Student!
As a high school student and current intern at Lighthouse Writers Workshop, writing has become more than just something I do for school. During my time at Lighthouse so far, I’ve been able to explore writing as a creative practice and a way of connecting with others. I wanted to share what I love about writing because it has become one of the most important ways I understand myself and the world around me.
Writing gives me space to create, reflect, and make sense of everything happening around me. It’s where I explore ideas, emotions, and parts of myself that don’t always come out easily in everyday conversation.
Creating New Worlds
One of my favorite things about writing is creating new worlds and characters. Writing lets me imagine places that don’t exist and people who feel real anyway. These worlds don’t have to follow the same rules as real life, which makes them feel both safe and exciting.
Sometimes, creating a character or setting helps me understand things about myself that I didn’t realize before. It feels like experimenting with ideas, but in story form.
Connecting With Other People
Writing also helps me connect with other people. Even though writing often happens alone, it’s meant to be shared. Reading someone else’s writing can make you feel understood, and I think that’s one of the most powerful things about it.
When you write honestly, someone out there might recognize themselves in your words. Writing becomes a way to reach people you might never meet, but still deeply relate to.
Writing With Music
Music is a big part of my writing process. I usually make playlists to write to because music helps set the mood and keeps me focused. Certain songs help me write faster, while others help me slow down and really think about what I want to say.
Together, music and writing make the whole process feel more immersive and comfortable.
Processing the World Through Writing
Writing is also how I process the world around me. High school can feel overwhelming, confusing, and stressful, and writing helps me sort through all of that. When things feel messy in my head, getting words down on the page helps organize my thoughts.
Even when I don’t have clear answers, writing helps me feel more grounded.
Expressing Who I Am
Most importantly, writing is how I express myself. It gives me a place to be honest without worrying about being interrupted or misunderstood. Writing lets me explore who I am and how I see the world.
As a high school student still figuring things out, writing gives me room to grow and exist exactly as I am.
