We’ve all rolled our eyes at stories, movies, or tv shows that shrink Queer characters down to their most basic stereotypes. Maybe their sexuality and/or gender is their entire personality, maybe they can only exist in relation to their trauma, or better yet, they’re the token gay friend for the gorgeous, layered main character. So how do we as Queer storytellers and allies shake up the narrative and tap into the complexity we know is present in Queer lives? This Queer Creatives Fest panel, featuring fiction, nonfiction, and poetry authors, will explore how we can write more nuanced Queer narratives that actually display the beautiful, messy, and relatable stories of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
This panel is part of the 2026 Queer Creatives Fest. Queer Creatives Fest is open to writers of all genres and creatives of all types who identify as members of LGBTQIA+ communities. We also welcome folks who are questioning their gender or sexual orientation and those who are in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ communities. Our intention is to center LGBTQIA+ people at the Fest.
