
The Writing in Color Fellowship is an opportunity for BIPOC+ (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) writers to attend workshops, fests, and more at Lighthouse.
What’s Included?

Five (5) one-day classes

A Gold Pass to the weekend Writing in Color Fest taking place in March 2026

Five hours of 1-on-1 mentoring with Lighthouse faculty. Past mentors have included Suzi Q. Smith, Franklin Cruz, and Jamie Figueroa, but you can work with any faculty with whom you have developed a connection.

One-year membership at Lighthouse Writers Workshop

Opportunity to support a Lighthouse community outreach program, helping to facilitate, administrate, or teach in the program.
Eligibility
This fellowship is open to any BIPOC+* writer who is over the age of 18. Preference will be given to individuals who have been previously involved with the Writing in Color community and had less access to traditional literary opportunities.
*BIPOC+ includes but is not limited to: African, Indigenous, Native, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, Arab, and Multiracial heritage.
Timeline
Applications open January 2, 2026 via Submittable and close on Friday, January 30 2026. All applicants will be notified about the status of their applications via email in late February.
Apply
Applications will include a writing sample, cover letter, and responses to fellowship specific questions. There is a $20 application fee, and Writing in Color faculty will review applications and make their selection. If the application fee is prohibitive, please e-mail us at [email protected] to discuss alternatives.
