4-Week: Adaptations and Modern Takes for Screenwriting

From plays like Romeo and Juliet, to video games like The Last of Us, to the many comics in the world of Marvel, so many of your favorite movies and TV shows have been adapted from IP (Intellectual Property) or inspired by existing material. This class will not only guide screenwriters in the process of adapting a story, but also teach you how to take a classic tale and put a modern spin on it. Writers in this course will learn what makes a modern take successful, what source material is worth investing in, how to adapt something into feature/television format, and exercises that will help them quickly come up with new takes of old ideas. By the end of the course each student will have started a new script based on the source material of their choice.
