4-Week: Writing for Young Adults 101

Are you interested in learning to write books but don't know where to start? In this four-week workshop we’ll discover which age range or genre your story fits into and dive deeply into the basics of storytelling for young people. In this class we’ll learn the difference between middle grade, young adult, and new adult; what special considerations are needed when writing children’s literature; and the foundational skills of theme, character, plot, and worldbuilding. Each class we'll take time for freewriting to get you in the creative mindset, followed by a lecture on each weekly topic, and we'll also have examples and writing exercises to apply this new knowledge to your own stories.

Please note: this class will be entirely on Zoom week one, and hybrid (in-person and virtual attendance) the following three weeks.
