This generative course is an ideal fit for intermediate and advanced writers of prose at any point of their projects looking to get themselves rolling at the start of a new year. Writers will leave the course with eight starts to eight new pieces of fiction or nonfiction, a deeper knowledge of craft, and some preliminary input and feedback designed to help lead writers further into the next phases of their projects' lives. Each week, we’ll draft the start of one new piece of fiction or nonfiction, often with a range of optional writing prompts and a brief, motivational craft reading. We’ll get informal encouragement and reflections on our starts from the instructor and our peers and develop a supportive, nurturing community of writers. While craft lectures will focus on elements most relevant to advanced and intermediate writers of prose who are looking to deepen and expand their creative futures, all levels of writers at any stage in their prose writing lives are welcome—and will be offered foundational readings and exercises, should they desire that. In sum, the course will be shaped around the mission that each writer will begin the new year with eight new, potent, exciting writing trajectories for their upcoming year.
About Our Asynchronous Classes:
We use an online platform called Wet Ink for asynchronous classes. Rather than meet at a specific time and place in person or via Zoom, this platform allows writers to log in on their own time to post comments and critiques directly to authors’ works (for 8-week workshops). You can also view deadlines, track revisions, and watch video or listen to audio. At the end of the class, each student will receive an email that contains an archive of all their content and interactions. Everyone who participates in an online workshop will also become part of the ongoing Lighthouse community within Wet Ink, where you can share and receive exercises and calls for submissions. Stay in touch with your fellow students (if you like) via the Lighthouse community when the class has ended.
By the end of the day on the Monday that class begins, you’ll receive an invitation to join Wet Ink. There are no browser requirements, and Wet Ink is mobile-friendly. If you have any questions about the technical requirements, please email info@lighthousewriters.org.
