Sheldon Gaskell earned a BA in English and Creative Writing from Cornell College in Iowa, an MA in English Literature (with a film focus) from Western Illinois University, and is a graduate of the Middlebury College Summer Language School of Abenaki. He hails from the Connecticut River Valley, where he was enrolled in creative writing programs at Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts and Wesleyan University’s Center for Creative Youth. He was the winner of the 2010 Connecticut Young Writers Contest and a finalist for the Jack London Writing Contest for his short creative nonfiction story “Kineo.” Currently engaged in the Lighthouse Book Project, his novel-in-progress is about a woman navigating the mental fog of dementia to solve a generational crisis in her French-Canadian family and crisis of identity within herself. In addition to teaching creative writing at Lighthouse, Sheldon is an Associate Teaching Professor of Rhetoric and Writing at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. He currently lives in Castle Rock with his wife, artist Jenny Welden, and son, Moses.
