Setting—Writing Like A Camera

Setting is one of the key elements of any narrative, whether it’s fiction or creative nonfiction. In this class, writers will learn how to use the right details to craft the space in which a scene takes place and how to make cinematic choices regarding when to pan out or zoom in for a close-up. Location should always be action, should always being doing something, so we will practice writing a setting via exercises that will help you create worlds your reader can actually inhabit. You will receive a few short readings and handouts before the day of the workshop.
